The Combat Antisemitism Movement — in partnership with the Wichita Public Library — is commemorating Jewish American Heritage Month in May by hosting a creative competition for students. This contest encourages participants to explore the influential role of the Jewish community in American society. Through fostering creativity and deepening understanding of Jewish heritage within the United States, the event aims to inspire and educate.

Honoring Jewish American Heritage
Jewish Americans have made significant contributions to the arts, entertainment, and media industries in the United States. From film producers like Steven Spielberg to actors like Barbra Streisand, Jewish Americans have played an influential role in shaping American culture.
Jewish Americans have also made significant contributions to science and technology in the United States. Jewish scientists have been responsible for major breakthroughs in fields like medicine, physics, and chemistry, including the development of the polio vaccine, the discovery of DNA structure, and the development of the transistor.

The Contest is open to all students from 5th grade through 12th grade.

Enter by submitting an essay or a poem.

Essays must be maximum 800 words.

Limit of two entries per student – and the entry must be the student’s original work.

The deadline to enter is May 20th at 11:59pm EST (winners will be announced on May 30th).
Prizes
First-place prize: $5,000; 10 runner-up prizes of $1,000 each; and 10 honorable mention prizes of $500 each.
The contest prizes are sponsored by the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM).

Students can participate in the contest by writing an essay, poem or 2-minute video in response to one of the provided prompts. Winners will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges.

The Contest is open to Wichita area students from 9th grade through 12th grade.

Enter by submitting an essay or a poem (maximum 800 words), or a video clip (max. 2-minutes can be a narrative video, archive based story, story filmed or motion based and related to one of the prompts).

Limit of two entries per student – and the entry must be the student’s original work.

Winners will be selected by a panel of distinguished judges.

The Combat Antisemitism Movement reserves the right to distribute all submitted entries.

First Place Prize: The winner will have the exclusive opportunity to join Mayor Brandon Whipple on the field before a Wichita Wind Surge baseball game. After meeting several of the Wind Surge players on the field, they will get to watch the game with their family from Mayor’s box.
Second and Third Place Prizes: The second and third place winners will each receive three tickets for themselves and their loved ones to sit in Mayor Whipple's box during a Wichita Wind Surge baseball game.
